Introduction & Design
Asus has introduced a new variant in the Zenfone series. The new Asus Zenfone Max comes with attractive hardware and most importantly comes with a massive battery. On the front, the device consists of large bezels surrounding the display, and concentric circles with brushed metallic finish at the bottom. The back of the device has a removable panel with faux leather texture over it. The device measures 156 x 77.5 x 10.6mm and weighs a hefty 202 grams. The Asus Zenfone Max is available in black and white colour variant.
Display & Camera
The smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch HD IPS display that produces bright colours and crisp images. The screen features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection that ensures the display remains scratch-free and resistant to drops up to an extent. Users can enjoy games and videos over the big screen. In terms of imaging, the Asus Zenfone Max, like the Zenfone 2 Laser, sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing shooter paired laser autofocus, which Asus promises, focuses in 0.03 seconds. The camera comes coupled with dual-tone LED flash which helps in capturing images and recording videos even in dark conditions. The rear-facing camera can record videos upto full-HD (1920x1080) resolution. Overall the camera delivers decent images with a number of bundled modes to help users in every condition. On the front, pleasing all selfie lovers, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture to help in low-light conditions.
Software & Performance
The Asus Zenfone Max runs outdated Android 5.0 Lollipop wrapped under the Asus ZenUI, but the device can be upgraded to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow through the OTA provided by Asus. The ZenUI unlike other Chinese manufacturers features an application drawer and plenty of added features over the stock OS.  Under the hood, there is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset holding four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.2GHz, that keeps everything under control and ensures smooth sailing. The Asus Zenfone Max is equipped with 2GB of RAM that helps in multitasking, working on multiple apps at the same time is not expected to slow down the device. The device comes with 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.
Battery & Connectivity
The highlight of the device is its massive battery, the smartphone is backed up by a 5000 mAh Li-Ion cell which the company claims can keep the device functioning for more than a day with moderate to heavy usage. It can also charge other smartphones through its microUSB port, the device comes bundled with a USB OTG cable to take advantage of this feature. The device is rated to provide 38 hours of talk time on 3G network. Connectivity options that tag along with the device include dual-SIM 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Bluetooth 4.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port with USB OTG support.
