Google Pixel 3 Review: Pros & Cons

8.3
out of 10
MSP SCORE
Pros
The Pixel 3's small demeanor lends to a comfortable in-hand feel. It offers class-leading still images from the front and rear cameras. Its software is clean, UI is fluid, and battery life is decent. The smartphone also offers stereo speakers and fast wireless charging. Google has even promised software updates for the phone for the next three years.
Cons
The phone lacks any additional software features. Fast wireless charging can only be achieved with the use of a Pixel Stand. The phone misses out on a 3.5mm jack, dual SIM slot, and microSD card slot. Furthermore, its glass back can get scratched easily.

Google Pixel 3 Details

Introduction
Labelled as the "iPhone X killer", the Google Pixel 3 pulls out all the stops to dethrone the iPhone X. Google introduced the Pixel line of phones as a continuation of their now discontinued Nexus range of devices. The Google Pixel and Pixel 2 have been extremely well received by enthusiasts and new users alike, and the Pixel 3 bears all the markings to continue that trend.
Display and Camera
The Google Pixel 3 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD+ OLED panel which is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Powering the goliath is Qualcomm's Adreno 540 GPU. The primary camera is 12.2-megapixels and is paired with features like optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus, laser detection autofocus, geo-tagging, HDR and panorama and it can record 4k videos at 30fps. The Pixel 3 ships with dual front snappers. On the front, the device hosts an 8+8-megapixel setup that can record Full HD videos at 30fps. The cameras also support Google Lens, an exclusive to Pixel devices, which allows you to point at objects and get information about them.
Hardware and Software
The Google Pixel 3 is powered by Qualcomm's top of the line Snapdragon 845 SoC clocked at 2.5GHz, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with no expansion capabilities. The battery is a non-removable 2,915mAh Li-ion unit which supports Quick Charge 3.0, allowing you to charge your phone at lightning fast speeds. Also, the Pixel 3 has wireless charging support. The device is expected to run Android Pie 9.0 out of the box, with virtually no customization, allowing for a clean, stock Android experience.
Connectivity and Additional Features
The Google Pixel 3, much like its predecessors, has only a single SIM card slot which supports 4G and VoLTE. Other connectivity features include 802.11 b/g/n/ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, NFC and a USB Type-C 3.1 port for charging and data transfer. With the above specs, the Google Pixel 3 is one of the best contenders to take the iPhone X head on.
