The Lenovo A390 is a budget smartphone. The phone has a sturdy look and is built using plastic. The dimensions of the phone are 125.6 x 64 x 10.1 mm (4.94 x 2.52 x 0.40 in) and it weighs just about 131 grams. The device has three capacitive buttons below the screen. The phone has a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800X480 with a pixel density of 233ppi. The phone runs on Android v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) accompanied by Lenovo's custom UI. The phone comes with a 1 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor with 512 MB of RAM, which is decent and similar to what other mobiles in this category come with.

The A390 has a decent 5 megapixel camera but lacks flash. The camera on the phone is good but suffers in low-light conditions. The pictures taken have a resolution of 2592 X 1944 pixels. The phone doesn't have a secondary camera, so it is not possible to make video calls through the phone. The device supports basic audio and video format such as MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV, MP4, WMV, H.264 and H.263. The inbuilt speakers throw a decent amount of sound when the music is played.

The Bluetooth also supports wireless headset connectivity. The phone offers all the basic features amid smartphones, such as organizer and Google bundled apps and GPS and A-GPS.

The device is powered by a decent 1500 mAh battery that provides talk time of up to 14 hours on 2G and 9 hours on 3G on a single full charge. The device offers a standby time of up to 220 hours on 2G and 180 hours on 3G. The phone packs 4 GB of internal storage with an additional microSD slot that allows you to expand storage up to 32 GB.
