The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. Calling for a duel with the Apple iPad, Samsung has added a lot to the new Galaxy Tab S 8.4. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 comes with two different system-on-chips (SoC) which include quad-core Exynos 5 Octa 5420 Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7 clocked at 1.9 GHz and 1.3 GHz respectively with ARM Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. In terms of memory, the device has 3 GB RAM with 16GB internal memory which can further be extended to 128 GB via the microSD card slot present on the device.

The more traditional LCD display has made way for Super AMOLED. The incredible 2560 x 1600 resolution which produces pixel density of 359 PPI makes text appear sharp and high definition videos looks great. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 does not fit all tastes in terms of colour as the device comes in only two different colour variants namely Dazzling White and Titanium Bronze. The Super AMOLED display plays its part in the weight and thickness of the device. The tablet is 6.6 mm thin and weighs 298 grams. The curved design helps the device to fit perfectly in the palm of the hands.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 comes with an 8-megapixel primary camera with autofocus and LED flash and a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera which supports Full high-definition video recording. Day-light outdoor shots are as good as indoors. On the multimedia front, the tablet supports playback of the common multimedia file formats including MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA, etc.

The device runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and sports a wide range of softwares. Taking a leaf out of the Galaxy S5, the Tab S 8.4 features a fingerprint scanner which is integrated into the home button. Users can store up to 3 prints for unlocking the device. SideSync is another important feature added on the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, it allows you to access your Galaxy S5 from the Tab screen via WI-Fi Direct. The Galaxy Tab has SideSync pre-loaded on the device but in order to utilise the feature one has to install SideSync on Galaxy S5 from Playstore. You can rotate the device if you wish to go to a full screen mode. The device does not provide resistance to dust and water and also does not feature NFC.
