ASUS Zenfone AR

The Asus Zenfone AR is one of the first smartphones to support Google Tango, aside from the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, via a Snapdragon 821 chipset. The phone also supports Daydream VR headsets for gaming and entertainment.

The display on the Zenfone AR is a 5.7-inch SuperAMOLED display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels that shows media of the highest quality. Users can expect crystal clear media with bright colours and contrast with a pixel density of 490 PPI. The phone features a physical home button between the capacitive back and app array buttons. The phone is currently available in black exteriors.

The Zenfone AR features Nougat 7.0 on a Snapdragon 821 chipset that bears 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and a 2.35 GHz quad-core processor that run apps and games at a good speed. The 128GB of storage can be increased to 256GB with a microSD card if required. The chipset also features an Adreno 530 GPU that displays excellent graphics while consuming 40% less power than the 820 chipset.

The Snapdragon 821 chipset also supports Google Tango that offers a number of unique features and supporting apps to use them. These features include enabling the camera to make measurements and sense depth with motion tracking and IR when pointed at an area. However, this is limited to non-reflective spaces. Sunlit areas, bulbs and objects that reflect IR cannot be scanned with accuracy. Apps that support these features will be available in the App Store. ?

The phone can pair with the Daydream View headset for gaming and entertainment via apps including Need For Speed, Google Street View, Netflix, and HBO ?

The Zenfone AR features a 23-megapixel rear camera that guarantees quality images aided by PDAF for almost instantaneous object capture and LED flash. The front camera on the Zenfone AR is 8-megapixels that captures clear images. The battery that powers the device is a 3,300mAh non-removable Li-ion that lasts a day. The chipset is equipped with fast charging that provides the phone with full charge in under 90 minutes.

The device accommodates dual nano-SIM cards that support 4G and 3G mobile data. The phone also enables GPS, GLONASS and A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac standards as well as Bluetooth 4.2. The phone bears a fingerprint sensor on the front in the home button.
