Huawei Honor WaterPlay

Chinese smartphone giants Huawei announced the release of their latest Android-based tablet; the Huawei Honor WaterPlay. Tablets, in general, have fallen out of the mainstream due to the emergence of phones with large screens, aka phablets. It is unclear why Huawei, despite their range of good phablets, decided to go ahead with the release of the Honor WaterPlay. The tablet measures 248.00 x 173.00 x 7.80 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 465.00 grams and is encased in a sturdy all-metal body.

The Huawei Honor WaterPlay sports a 10.10 inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1920x1200. The primary camera is 8-megapixels, and the secondary camera is 0.3-megapixels. Granted that photography with tablets can be cumbersome and most people avoid it altogether, the secondary camera could have been made more powerful as people still use it for video calling and the likes. It might be a bid to keep the price of the tablet low, but it is a severe deterrent to buying the tablet. 

The Huawei Honor WaterPlay is powered by an octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 659 processor clocked at 2.3Ghz along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD expansion. The battery is a 6,600mAh Li-ion unit, which is underwhelming for a tablet and it may require a charge at least twice a day. Thankfully it supports Quick Charge, significantly reducing the time required to charge it. It also features a front-mounted fingerprint scanner which also doubles up as a home button. The tablet is expected to run Android Nougat 7.0, customised with EMUI 5.0 out of the box. 

The Huawei Honor WaterPlay has a single SIM card slot compatible with 4G and VoLTE. Other connectivity features include 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. It also comes with four Harman Kardon-powered speakers to give 3D surround sound and delivering an immersive media experience.
